We’ve launched our brand new, pure electric C40 Recharge

Our newest, biggest secret is finally out. The C40 Recharge is one of our most exciting launches yet: pure electric, available online only, and boasting an edgy design that stands out from the crowd.

The C40 Recharge – the first Volvo model ever to be designed to be pure electric from the start – is our next big step towards a zero-emission future.

 

The XC40 Recharge and this brand new C40 Recharge are the first of several fully electric models that we’ll release in coming years.

 

By 2025, we’re aiming for 50 per cent of our global sales volume to consist of fully electric cars, with the rest hybrids. By 2030, we plan for every car we sell to be pure electric.

 

“The C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and shows where we are going,” said Henrik Green, our chief technology officer. “It is fully electric, sold online only with a convenient care package and will be available for quick delivery. Getting a new Volvo was never this attractive.”

 

And attractive it is. The C40 Recharge is one seriously stylish addition to our lineup. It’s based on our CMA scalable vehicle architecture and gives consumers all the benefits of an SUV but with a lower and sleeker design.

 

The rear features a striking rear-end design that flows perfectly with the lower roof line, while the front design introduces a new face for electric Volvos and includes head lights with state-of-the-art pixel technology.

 

Of course, we know it’s not all about looking good on the outside. Which is why the inside is just as cool. The C40 Recharge includes the high seating position that most Volvo drivers prefer and is available in a range of colour and decor options unique to the model. It’s the first car to bear the brand-new colour Fjord Blue, and it’s also the first Volvo model to be completely leather-free.

 

Naturally, the C40 Recharge is kitted out with one of the best infotainment systems on the market, which has been co-developed with Google and is based on the Android operating system.

 

This means that consumers can access embedded services like Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play. Thanks to unlimited data, the car receives constant over-the-air updates so that it will continue to improve after leaving the factory.

 

When it comes to power, the C40 Recharge has it in spades: an electric motor on the front and rear axles are powered by a 78kWh battery that can be fast-charged to 80 per cent in about 40 minutes. It offers an anticipated range of around 420km, which is expected to improve over time via over-the-air software updates.

 

As we discussed in our digital launch event today (click here to watch the video), the C40 Recharge will be available online only. It’s a bold move, linked to our commercial transformation that is designed to transform the way we connect with customers.

 

We want to make the entire experience of getting hold of a Volvo car smoother and easier. To this end, we’ve added a convenient care package to the C40 Recharge, and we’ve also reduced complexity by streamlining the number of variants of the C40 Recharge; why focus on anything but the best?

 

The C40 Recharge will join its sibling, the XC40 Recharge, this autumn on our production line in Ghent. We can’t wait to see this sleek new Volvo on the streets where it belongs.
