Seasoned executives Lila Tretikov and Diarmuid O’Connell join our Board of Directors

We have two new members of our Board of Directors. A warm welcome to Lila Tretikov and Diarmuid O’Connell!

Our Board of Directors is an important part of our company. The most important role of the Board is to set the long-term strategy of the company and ensure that our Executive Management implements that strategy and drives the performance of the company. The Board is not involved in the company’s daily operations but meets regularly throughout the year.

To make sure that they can fulfil that role, it’s important that we have a wide range of experience and competence on the Board. The latest appointments to the Board, announced this week, fit that requirement perfectly.

First up is Lila Tretikov, who is the deputy chief technology officer of Microsoft and a leading expert in a variety of fields including artificial intelligence and technology-enabled business transformation.

Lila was born in Moscow and moved to the United States to study, initially to pursue a career as a software engineer and programmer. She quickly rose to prominence founding her own company in the field of computational genomics while at college and has since worked for several leading tech firms, including Sun Microsystems and SugarCRM, before she spent two years in charge of the Wikimedia Foundation, the organisation that manages Wikipedia. Lila has been with Microsoft since 2018.

Diarmuid O’Connell also joins our Board. Diarmuid has a lot of relevant knowledge about the automotive industry and electrification, as he has worked at our respected competitor Tesla for over a decade.

Diarmuid was a member of the Tesla executive management and in charge of corporate and business development. For example, he led the development of the company’s manufacturing network and oversaw its expansion in international markets.

Diarmuid also spent some years in the US government serving under then Secretary of State Colin Powell. Before that, he held several senior positions at large international marketing firms.

Separately, Winnie Kin Wah Fok has retired from her position on the Board after deciding to not stand for re-election. Winnie has been a member of our Board since the Geely takeover. We’re grateful for all her contributions and wish her all the best for the future.

Following these announcements, our Board of Directors now consists of the following members: Li Shufu (Chairman), Lone Fønss Schrøder (Vice-Chairman), Håkan Samuelsson (President and CEO), Daniel Li, Winfried Vahland, Betsy Atkins, Tom Johnstone, Michael Jackson, Jim Zhang, Jonas Samuelson, Lila Tretikov, Diarmuid O’Connell. Union representatives: Glenn Bergström, Jörgen Olsson and Marko Peltonen.
