February sales continuing the growing trend
Our upward sales trend continued in February, as we recorded growth in all our main sales regions and demand for our Recharge cars continued to increase. Globally, 26.6 per cent of the cars we sold in February were Recharge models.
The year-on-year growth in the first months of the year was strongest in China, where sales slowed down significantly early last year due to the coronavirus impact. But sales also went up considerably in the US and Europe, meaning that we're now up 29.1 per cent over the first two months of 2021.
In China, sales increased by 160.6 per cent in the first two months, compared to the same period last year. China was the first market to be impacted by the pandemic last year so the comparison base is unusual, but Chinese customer demand for the S90 and the XC range remains strong.
The XC range also boosted our deliveries in the US, where sales increased by 23.7 per cent year-on-year in the first two months. The XC60 and XC90 remain neck and neck for the position of best-selling model in America, closely followed by XC40.
In Europe, meanwhile, the Recharge line-up of chargeable Volvos supported overall demand and represented a very encouraging 44 per cent of overall sales. In terms of individual markets, the performance in Sweden, Italy and Belgium stood out positively. The increase for the January-February period added up to 5.5 per cent.
