Volvo and Amazon take in-car delivery to the United States
Volvo has teamed up with Amazon to bring in-car delivery of packages to millions of customers in the United States via the Volvo On Call Platform.

Volvo was one of the first car makers to look at in-car delivery: a simple and convenient way of receiving packages ordered online. Since 2015, we have enabled in-car delivery services in a number of European countries, including Sweden and Switzerland. Instead of having to stand in line at a store after work, packages are placed into a customer’s car while they are at the office.  

Now, our cooperation with Amazon brings new scale to this convenient digital consumer service in the United States, with in-car delivery available to Volvo and Amazon customers in almost 40 large cities around the country. 

As with many other of our digital consumer services, in-car delivery with Amazon is offered to Volvo customers via our Volvo on Call platform and easy-to-use smartphone app. Users link their Volvo on Call account with their Amazon Key account, and when shopping via Amazon, select their car as a delivery option at checkout. 

After that, Amazon’s smart delivery network sorts out the rest, with everything done in a safe and secure way, so that only authorised delivery drivers can temporarily access a customer’s car. When the delivery is done and the car is locked again, customers receive a notification via Volvo on Call and Amazon Key.

This mix of cars and commerce is starting the next wave of innovation and we intend to be at the forefront.” 

In-car delivery is one of several digital consumer services offered by Volvo via the Volvo on Call platform. Other services include sending calendar-based navigation destinations directly to your car, finding nearby fuel stations and even getting help finding your car in large car parks or on unfamiliar city streets. Volvo on Call also enables the car-sharing feature via digital key, available on the XC40.
